Aeternals

“On the other side, Aeternals do not depend on mortals to gain power. Like humans, they depend solely on their own capabilities. Also, there are vastly more Aeternals than Divinities.”

“To make it simpler, Aeternal is anything you don’t know as a Divinity. Demigods, the supposed offspring of Divinities and mortals, are more likely to be Aeternals than Divinities themselves. Japanese culture is stuffed with Aeternals. The oni, the kitsune and the yuki-onna are all examples of Aeternals. Mythological beasts and entities such as chimeras, valkyries, nymphs, vampires, leprechauns and gorgons are all Aeternals with different levels of power. As you already must know, angels, demons, Archangels and Archdemons are also Aeternals. Humans can become Aeternals, too. This is usually the case of history’s most epic heroes. There are also legendary and mythological heroes whose deeds become so famous they become Aeternals.”

- Takako, "True Stories 02: Of Takako's Thoughts & Nature"

Aeternals are one of two kinds of Supernal Entities. Their defining characteristic is that, unlike Divinities, they do not rely on the acknowledgement of mortals to exist. Aeternals are pure supra-physical forms of a concept, hence they do not need mortals to ascertain their existence. As long as the concept they represent exists, they will exist. For this reason, most Aeternals are stronger than most Divinities.

I'll leave the further details to my lovely assistant.

Death of Aeternals

"Aeternals, like Divinities, are immortal in their natural forms, but they're not invulnerable. They can be slain, just like Divinities, but, like them, the only way they can truly die is by their Agendas being taken and their Supernal Spark being assimilated by another being."

Birth of Aeternals

"The method in which new Aeternals are created depends on the nature of the entity in question. There isn't really a formal process that I know of and, as far as I know, no one is in charge of managing this hypothetical process. However, we can formalize three different ways for an Aeternal to be born, from what I've seen:

  • Low-Level Aeternals can be spawned by Reality itself, with the approval of the Thread of Destiny. This is normally the case for "generic" Aeternals, like nymphs, fairies and most other "creatures of myth."
  • Named Angels are irreplaceable. This includes Archangels. If one of them dies and its Agendas are taken, that's it. The same applies to named Demons and Archdemons. Nameless Angels & Demons ("Holy-War Cannon Fodder," as I like to call them) are replaced from the souls of humans who have died and are in advanced stages of their returning path to Adam Kadmon. Of course, they're given the choice between joining the ranks of the Hierarcy or reaching their final and eternal paradise as one with the Original Man.
  • Finally, there's also the possibility that a human (technically any creature, but it's hard to imagine a "heroic praying mantis") whose life has been heroic enough gains the right to join the ranks of the Aeternals by receiving an Agenda according to his nature and his deeds in life. Of course, the use of the term "heroic" here isn't quite correct. Basically, an "heroic mortal" is a mortal whose existence had a breakthrough significance to the history of the world in an active way, regardless of the good or evil of his actions. This explains why Einstein didn't become an Aeternal......nor Hitler. Their actions, while important and relevant to mankind's history, were of a......"mundane" nature. Of course this is from the perspective of the supernal. Being the mastermind behind the death of millions of anything but mundane for the average human mind. That's why it's extremely rare for new Aeternals to be born from heroic mortals nowadays. The era of legendary, almost mythical heroes and villains is long gone."

Aeternal Levels

"Like with Divinities, we like to assign levels to Aeternals as a way to measure their relative power. Like with Divinities, every single Aeternal is assigned a number between 1 and 100. Even a Level 1 Aeternal is far stronger than the mightiest mortal. There's only one known Level 100 Aeternal: onii-chan at his full power. Onii-chan has achieved Level 100 because he's both Adam Kadmon AND Matsuki Takato: the combined power of those two is approximately equivalent to the hypothetical Level 100. I'm Level 96 and Taichi is Level 90."

"We call Aeternals of Levels 1 to 25 Evolved Aeternals; those between Level 26 and Level 50 are Illuminated Aeternals; those between 51 and 75 are Transcendent, and those whose Level is higher than 75 are Absolute Aeternals, as they often represent the most fundamental and absolute concepts that define Reality."
