Strophalos – The Living Flame Which Clothes Itself in Matter to Manifest Existence

The miraculous pendant of the chthonic goddess. Hecate’s Strophalos is a hollow pendant in the shape of a dodecahedron with smooth edges (think of a 12-sided die). The cage only has its corners and edges, and circular holes replace the dodecahedron’s sides. Inside the cage, a perfectly spherical glass-like crystal floats, radiating the faint blue light of the mystical flame it contains within.

Strophalos is a lesser version of Sophia’s Cosmogenia, replacing memory capacity for added functionality. Hecate’s Instrumental Weapon is a constantly-updating record of her Existence; a backup for Hecate herself. It cannot record anything else, not even if its ownership is transferred. However, unlike Sophia’s Forbidden Instrument, Strophalos also has a “read-out” function. In other words, the owner of the pendant can use it to “explore” the extent of everything that is Hecate: her memories, her feelings, her powers. Incarnations of the goddess use it upon their epiphanies to quickly catch up on everything they don’t know—including the memories of previous Incarnations.

Note that Strophalos does not have further capabilities beyond “recording” and “reading out”. It does not have Cosmogenia’s “restoration” capabilities. It is not a Forbidden Instrument, after all—though its power to collect data from SAMYA_JARA and the Akashic Records is already pretty close to what is forbidden. The data contained in Strophalos can be used in a similar manner to that stored in Cosmogenia, however, as Takato so lovingly proved.
