Nyktipolos

Nyktipolos – The Folly of Dreaming of the Future at the Expense of the Present (Νυκτιπολος)

Owner: Hecate

Type: Anti-Unit

Avg. Output: --

Hecate’s main armaments; the fire-brands with which she slew Klytios during the Giant-War. A pair of flaming longswords light enough for the goddess to dual-wield comfortably. Both the flames and the blades are completely ordinary regarding the damage they inflict. However, attacks made by these swords inflict double damage on all Aeternals.

The second, main effect of the twin blades is far more impressive. To use it, however, Hecate must accept a curse: every use of this effect after the first in any given day drops the wielder’s Agility by a rank for 24 hours.

Once per day per opponent, whenever she is engaged in melee with the intended target, she may slice the space between them with either of the swords.

Time stops.

The space around Hecate ripples as three images appear before her: divinations of three possible ways the next thirty seconds of battle may continue. At least one of the possible futures is beneficial to Hecate, although this may not be obvious at first glance. Hecate then has thirty seconds to evaluate and decide on one of the three possibilities before time resumes its flow relative to everything else in Reality. If she made a choice, SAMYA_JARA does everything in her power to ensure things go exactly as divined. Treat this as if Seder Hishtalshelus had been used to ensure that particular course of events, unless the real thing intervenes, in which case Adam obviously beats the swords’ power.

Note that the effect of Nyktipolos does not outright ignore the laws of Reality to ensure the chosen destiny comes into being. The three divined possibilities will always be adjusted to whatever specific circumstances govern the current flow of events; namely, the swords cannot conceive utterly impossible futures. Furthermore, if, for example, Hecate activates this effect while within the bounded field defined by Pandora’s Box, the three potential futures will all be conceived taking into account the rule imposed by Moloch’s Reality Script.
